Darren, I didn't even know you had another TE besides the ListSurfing hybrid. I will check it out for sure.

An Alexa rank of < 50.000 is a threshold for me to consider upgrading.

Definitely plays a factor.

Clutter in TEs drives me crazy - I won't buy anything if there are too many distractions. As an advertiser, I don't to pay for ads that are rarely seen.

Ownership is my big first look.  Is the owner active!  Is the owner known! The big negative for me is an owner who is here, today, gone tomorrow and back again.  Are they opening a new TE every few months.  Do they creat hoops and roadblocks for paying commissions.  As an owner, I believe if a member earns I pay them - no roadblocks, special rules, no hoops to jump through!

@Tony - As others in the niche have alluded, people who launch a TE (for example) every few months are simply doing so to grab infusions of cash...at least that's the speculation. Technologies and scripts have certainly made it easier now than over the past 10 years to start and operate a TE, and mailer for that matter.

"Owners" come and go, just like in nearly any market...some faster than others, for sure...both online and offline. It certainly helps when the individual running the TE has built up some credibility.

Guess it depends on what you mean by 'Clutter'

For me it's the opposite.. if there's not enough going on to keep someone on the page, then they're not going to even see your ad (tab surfing, watching netflix while surfing, using forums while surfing  ;) )

Gotta keep people engaged with the site, and if your ad isn't doing it then the site will need to step in and do it for you, or else what's the point?

Everyone DVR's TV and Fast Forwards through commercials because they are bored and not engaged, same thing applies to TE's.

For me it's long term value and ownership. And the right price for what you can expect to get back over time (realistically).

Over the years it gets easier to make the decision, based on your previous experience and insight in the marketplace.

Usually I get turned off when logging in to a TE that has tons of "stuff" floating in the members area. A couple days ago I logged in to one I hadn't used in a while and was completely overwhelmed, and the surf area was quite bloated, too. I certainly agree it's important to keep people engaged but there are plenty of ways to do so without packing the interface without room to breath, if you catch my drift.

My opinion is that the most important factor influencing you is that the paying capability of the TE..

I mean the most trusted TE are paying to free members their cash commissions, so If you upgrade there you will be paid more,, as simple as such.

Also, I think that price and advantages play an important role in taking decision to upgrade..

Take this example: Traffic Delivers

THE JUNIOR APPRENTICE UPGRADE

Get 3 Months for Only

~!!$9.44!!~

Take these benifits:

-250 credits Per Month
-400 Banner impressions
-400 Text impressions
-9 Second Timer
-.8-1 Surf Ratio
-7% Downline Surfing-1st Level
-More and Higher Prize Money!
-30% OTO Commissions
-25% Inside Commissions
-Show 10 Sites/Banners/Text
-Downline Emailer
-Credit Transfer System
-3% Downline Surfing-2nd Level
-It All Means MORE Money For U!

And if you have enough commission in your cash account you can use it to pay..

The Admin should be professional in the business

Appearance also matters to me, there are few TE's with good Admin but the surfing place

is very poor with lot of ads on the surfing page and distracts the main page which defeats the purpose.

The Biggest Reason to Upgrade in TE for me are

1.)  TE Owners Reputation - Is he Consistent,Does he Pay Members on Time Every Time,Does he Responds to Members Support Tickets.

2.)  Active TE - How active is the TE with Rewards and cross Promo's.(This Criteria cannot be fulfilled if 1st one fails as Great Owners = Great and Active TE's).

3.)  A Way to Actively Socialise with Members - Chat and Downline Messenger (or) Downline Credit Giver

4.)  Do they Deliver just Junk Traffic - Credits Burns without Conversion or Signups.

5.) Quality they offer for Upgrade Members with Special Price - Special Extra Benefits that Free Do not Get :).

These all are what i look Before Upgrading in any Websites.

With My Experience all these Criteria are met at these Following Traffic Exchanges that i have used (not in any order).

* Easyhits4U

* Traffic Swirl and Admaster Plusby John Bell

* I-Pro-X by Steve Buch

* Tezak Traffic Power by Tony Tezak

* Traffic Splash by Paul Kinder

* Fast Easy Traffic by Tim Rash

* Dragon Surf by Jamison Raymond

* Traffic Speedway by Randy Fountain

* Hot Flash Hits by Catherine and Jolyn

and Few More Sites :) .
