It seems that Elite Viral Mailer has been abandoned.  I know he owes ME money, I wonder how many people didn't get paid!  Is there any recourse that people can take or are we just SOL?  I'm also now wondering how many sites have gone through this and why?  Is it greed, or maybe they got in over their heads?  Is it that hard to manage a mailer?  What are some of the biggest problems, besides technical/server type problems, with running a safelist/mailer?

Hmm, there certainly has been quite a few disappear over the years... many of which I had so-called "lifetime" upgrades with. From what I understand if you contact your bank saying it was a lifetime membership and the site is gone now, the seller can get in trouble for that, and you may be able to get your money back, but not completely sure about that. I had a lifetime membership in Elite Viral Mailer too, but I just count it lost if the site is indeed gone. As for commissions

if the site doesn't come back, unfortunately there would be no way for you to get those.

Right now Elite Viral Mailer seems to be "suspended" which could mean just that their web hosting company didn't like something they were doing, or they are missing payment(s). So, if he gets it back in order or moves to a new host the site could come back... I've always been annoyed by that site though - I had purchased a login ad and it wasn't credited to my account, I contacted support and never got any help. The site also had full mailing queues often so you never knew when you could actually mail. So all in all, I wouldn't entirely miss it.

Is it that hard to manage a mailer?

Nope, it is pretty easy especially if you have a reliable script. The hardest part is to be consistent about bringing in new members.

I always thought it was interesting that he allowed members to post live feedback inside the members area.  You could read complaints going back a few months from members about not receiving commissions with no response from the owner.  I was actually ready to upgrade until I saw that.

Apparently it's harder for some people to manage a mailer than it is for others.

That site always seemed like it was full of hype. I could never understand why certain people were willing to put their names out there in support of it. I have upgraded almost everywhere and that is literally one of the few sites that I just had a feeling about and wouldn't upgrade at... I brought one person in under me who upgraded and then I tested the site to see if he paid his commissions and he never responded to my ticket or paid me so I decided not to upgrade or promote the site.

I think that many safelist owners give up because there is a lot of competition out there...the market is definitely over-saturated and they just don't want to put in the extra effort to make their sites distinctive, either by hiring someone (coders, designers...etc.) to help them set their sites apart or learning how to do those tasks themselves.

Originally, I thought this site had "legs" and I almost upgraded but decided to wait.  It did a great job at getting a lot of members in a short amount of time, but any email I sent to support went unanswered!  When it started to come up as "Account Suspended" I just assumed that he walked away from his obligations and that I would never see my money.  Now, I still don't think I'll ever see any money because he hasn't said anything on the website or anywhere else!  To me, that's about the same as "abandoned"... If you're not going to "ADMIN" your site, what's the point???  Again, Greed?  Did he do it just to make some quick money and f*#@k everybody else?  Does he plan on staying in this market???  I just don't get it!

EVM... there's still time to make this right!!!

It's just the nature of the beast... low entry points means low risk.. anyone can spend a couple hundred bucks to open a mailer, and if it doesn't unlock the secret to instant riches like the sales page told them they did, it's easy to just walk away because of such a little investment...

Honestly, I think that Blake DOES have the makings to be a "contender" maybe a few years down the line... if this doesn't completely ruin his reputation. Aside from his own site, he's very active... I see his feed updates on Facbook and I do see that he seems to be helping some other people in other programs... he's got his autoresponder set up and uses it... and he's great at creating some hype. I think that right now he's just maybe a little young... and he is sort of treating Elite as if it someone else's mailer (not really his responsibility) and a mailer that he just needs to hype. I think his server issues took some wind out of his sails. I definitely see a difference between the Elite "abandonment" and other mailer abandonments. With others, I just know that I'll never see those owners again, but I get the feeling Blake is going to be around for a while... it remains to be seen if he takes the lessons he learns today to better serve others later... He's got to learn to respond to tickets and hold all commissions for his members. He has a lot of energy. He knows how to set up a good foundation for a great business. His next goal should be learning how to juggle it all and set his priorities.

And what John said... the low-entry points definitely doesn't help. I think that's why everyone is always pushing the "customize" issue... it's true... when you see someone spending time and extra money to customize they are less likely to walk away...

If you don't have the time to manage a site, better don't start one. Or if you start, then find someone to help you.

People don't just pay for "access" to a site, they pay for a service that can help them get more results with their online business.

And they expect it to be around for a long time so that they get something back in return for their money.

Bad news spreads fast (support tickets not answered, commissions not paid, ...) and before you know it, you're burned.

Elite Viral Mailer has been suspended again. I really wonder why Blake didn't keep up the site. It was one of the best looking and full-of-features sites for Safelists/Mailers that I have seen.

Yea, I noticed that today, suspended means it is something with his host - so as soon/if he gets that sorted it will be back.

I think the common problem with mailers is keeping them fresh so every body posting gets results.Plus new signups are needed to keep it going. Off course quality of mailings will also help keep the mailer vibrant.

Another site seems to have gone away. I posted EzContactz Marketing yesterday with no problems. Today I tried to login and got the following: Account Suspended  -- This Account Has Been Suspended. I hope they will be able to get this corrected since I liked the site. Mayde the Admin of the site is not aware of the problem or maybe a funding problem has occurred. I just want to encourage the admin to get the site fixed.

To many mailers with to little people chasing the same programs. Also program owners who hop from program to program instead of building one mailer up before opening another one.To fuel these programs new signups are needed weekly which means the program owner has to advertise his program and find fresh blood. There are methods and ways to seek new people online but this takes hard work and most program owners don't want to put the work in that's why they opened a mailer in the first place to make easy money with as little work as possible.

Wankers who do not answer there support emails should have there account suspended by there isp/ ect Or send some one around with a baseball bat to concentrate there brains (if they have one).

I am in agreement with you. With a little effort a site can be promoted and as a result thrive. Look at "Free Safelist Mailer" they reached almost 50,000 members, sure some a bad but they have a lot to work with, and they set the bar high for others to follow.
