There are many answers in this thread - and lots to read - perhaps too much…

I will suggest one good way that allows you to earn on autopilot - it is truly passive once it’s been set up :

 

 

KINDLE DIRECT PUBLISHING

 

I’m not talking about writing novels or textbooks: this is about creating low content books that everyone uses, and which Amazon prints for customers on demand. If you get this right, you can be earning money from sales of your books without lifting a finger - which is why it’s really a passive / autopilot method.

 

Some advantages:

 

It does not require huge intellectual effort: low content books are precisely that: low content. They don’t have much in them.

Amazon sells them for you: there’s a huge number of buyers trawling Amazon every second for books.

There’s no startup cost, no inventory - Amazon does everything.

The sky’s the limit: some low content book vendors make $1000s per day!

The downsides:

 

You do have to create something - there’s some graphical effort required to create interiors and covers - but you can find people who can help, and there are plenty of free sources for interiors (see RESOURCES at the end of my answer).

It’s Amazon - so there’s a 60 day delay before payment - which is not ideal but if you’re going to make a serious effort to make this work, then it’s not really an issue.

Margins: Amazon takes the lion’s share but you can still make a decent profit of a few $ per book sale. This is often more than an author would make with a major publisher - bear this in mind.

Getting Started

 

A Quora answer is not the best place to explain the ins and outs of making a living with KDP, so check out the resources list at the end which will take you to the next step. The basic plan of attack though is:

 

Find a niche and subniche for which you can create something and where there is both demand and little already available. Some standard techniques can be used to identify good subniches to address. A lined notebook would be too broad and difficult to sell, but a lined notebook for medical students might be much more appealing.

Open an account with Amazon KDP (free, of course)

Create your interior - either obtain one, or make it yourself (I use Powerpoint but some people use Canva.)

Create your cover - either yourself using places like Canva or get someone on Fiverr to make one for you if you’re not confident.

Upload your files to KDP - job done!

Now promote your book until it startes to generate sales. Again, many ways to do this! I have found Amazon advertising to be easy to set up, really effective and inexpensive. And once the book is selling you can stop spending money on ads.

KDP is an honest way to generate money online: it’s pretty straightforward and doesn’t require much in the way of maintenance once you’ve done the upfront work to create your books. It is, however, something that has subtleties that you should research: not every book is going to be a best seller. BUT - there is a great chance that yours could sell like hot cakes if you get it right - and make you a nice income!

Making Money Online is easy but it's important to have a business that pays you weekly regardless of the amount of money you earn.Being involved with a good company that pays you by Direct Deposit is the only ones i will do anymore. I was working some decent programs years ago that paid only when you made $100 and they closed up shop before I ever got paid.
