John Priestley Posted May 10, 2015 Report Posted May 10, 2015 Hi there, I know I have written about this before, but it is still doing it. I am happily working way on my machine using Google Chrome and then all of a sudden Firefox fires up and shows me some page or other. Anyone know where I can find this lurking and how I can kill it? Best regards and looking forward to hearing from you soon, John. lowell78 1 Quote
Darren Olander Posted May 10, 2015 Report Posted May 10, 2015 Do you still use firefox at all? If not, you should just uninstall it, that should stop it. Jasond188 1 Quote Founder of Marketing CheckpointMy Blog
Garrett Hutsko Posted May 13, 2015 Report Posted May 13, 2015 Make sure you have Chrome ID as your main Browser. You may have a link in a website that is causing FireFox to start. Some websites also have hidden some bad stuff, if you could ID the site that is running when FireFox Starts you may discover a link that starts FireFox. Quote
John Priestley Posted May 14, 2015 Author Report Posted May 14, 2015 Hi there! Well, I have been using Firefox a little, but as it is getting quite annoying, I might just uninstall it, Darren. However, as Garrett suggests, I will note down the site that fires up to see if is is always the same one. I really had not taken notice of this as I have just been closing Firefox when it opens by itself. Thanks for the feedback you guys and I will let you know what I come up with. Have a grand day, John. Richard Butler Jr Posted May 23, 2015 Report Posted May 23, 2015 I would run spybot followed by ccleaner. Both applications are free and you can find them through google.com search. Often times, when your browser start by itself...some app has been installed and runs in your browser to show you these sites. If you like you can inbox me here and I can send you some more links or help you out personally. I operating my own pc support service online. Glad to help. Quote

Garrett Hutsko Posted May 26, 2015 Report Posted May 26, 2015 I agree with all the above, so sites do nasty things and what you are experiencing is a by product of them. I think you can get the programs noted above and they will help clear this up. On thing you could do also is uninstall FireFox then reinstall it, this may also clear y=up your problem Quote
John Priestley Posted May 28, 2015 Author Report Posted May 28, 2015 Hi there! I have Norton 360 installed and did a full scan. It did not find anything. Maybe I will just kill firefox. I still have it as my default browser. Does that help in locating the possible source of the problem? Best regards and looking forward to hearing from you soon, John. Quote

John Priestley Posted October 17, 2015 Author Report Posted October 17, 2015 Hi there! I have just downloaded ADWCLEANER and it shows me that I have all sorts of rubbish installed that I didn't even know that I had downloaded. I am going to try deleting them bit by bit. Maybe I can find the origin without destroying anything else. I will let you know how it goes... Have a grand day, John. Quote
Garrett Hutsko Posted October 17, 2015 Report Posted October 17, 2015 I have had these types of problems in the past. I use the GeekSquad from Best Buy. What they did was to remove FireFox and reinstall a clean copy of it. This reset my FireFox and stopped my problems.FireFox now has built into it a process similar to SafeMode in Windows, which allows you to start FireFox with no attachments so you can try to track what caused your problem.I use FireFox for almost everything I do on the internet and I consider it better than all the other browsers Quote
cfere Posted October 22, 2015 Report Posted October 22, 2015 I haven't had that happen. But Darren is right, uninstall it if yo don't need it. John Priestley Posted October 25, 2015 Author Report Posted October 25, 2015 Hi there and thanks for all the great input. I have now discovered that it is not really Firefox related, it is "default browser" related. Whatever I have set as my default browser fires up all by itself every now and then. Strange... Any ideas? Best regards and looking forward to hearing from you soon, John. Quote
