Hi All

Could anyone tell Me how to get rid of all those annoying spam emails in Your gmail account?

Had enough

Is there a way?

Thanks

Pat

Not trying to sound trite abut the best way is to highlight then hit the delete key. You could set up filters but the easiest way is to just hit the delete key. Myself, what I do is move these to the inbox and then check them for content I might be interested in then deleting them. I have found that stuff I want is marked by Google as spam. Google is trying to handle spam but they sometimes miss the mark. Hope this helps.

There are a couple dozen or so spammers who keep coming back to my spam folder, even after clicking the unsubscribe button.  After a few times of doing that I stopped clicking and just let them pour in, never open them, and let Google delete them after 30 days.

You'll rarely find legitimate email in your spam folder if you make sure to set up filters for all senders that you do want to hear from. Any new legit senders who don't have filters set up for them yet, won't usually go to the spam folder because they're not sending anything that pulls the trigger.

Basically, your efforts should be focused on legit senders, and the spam will fall by the wayside automatically. Google will take out the trash for you.

Taking another kick at the can, because I can.

Hi Pat,

Spam is just part of doing business online.

I don't look at it as spam anymore.  Now, I see it as other marketers promoting their sites.

I suggest that you delete it and move on with your promotions.

One technique for getting red of spam, that most of us overlook, is simply creating a new gmail account.

This would involve an awful lot of effort regarding items you  are expecting, you will need to go to the accounts involved and change where the emails are going so you can get them. The delete button is easier by far and requires less effort since you don;t have to change the accounts emails.

The only way to completely eliminate spam is to never give ANYBODY your email address. However, there's not much point having an email address if nobody knows it!

Don't worry, the spammers will still find a way to get to it.

Hi Pat

If you feel really WICKED, you can use the spammers' email addresses to make a list...

Yeah, I mean into your autoresponder account!

:o

Name of list should be "Recognized Spammers" or so...

Then, just use the list to promote any dubious/spammy offer you think will make them stop!

I never mean I really did it ever (or are gonna to now...)

I have used the information on this page to greatly reduce the spam in Gmail. It is a bit of work but I did reduce it by at least 50%. If I went through it all again, I could probably reduce it more....when I get the time. :P

Click on “Mail Settings” link from the top-right corner of your account page. Head to the Filter tab to create a new filter then click on “Create a new folder”. At the “Has the words” box, put is:spam and click Next Step.Once you click on the Next Step button, a warning message appears. Simply, ignore this warning and click on OK. Now check into the box Delete it. You can also apply this filter on the existing spam emails in your account by selecting the appropriate option. Finally, click on Create Filter.

Once you configure and create the filter properly, all the incoming mails which are flagged as spam will be automatically deleted.

The only problem with those settings is that sometimes Gmail gets a wild hair and put things you have gotten in your inbox for years into spam for some reason. I have had to dig out a bunch of important stuff out of spam so you might want to monitor your spam before you do the above settings since it deletes the spam automatically. Of course that once a month or once a quarter newsletter may get put in spam occasionally too. With Gmail, once it is deleted it is gone forever.

I agree with Mr. Clean, I check my spam folder like I check my regular mail. I often find important mail classified as spam.
